Key Webinar Topics

Cybersecurity Defense: Cybersecurity Awareness and Incident Response Planning

We began our second webinar with a review of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework. While this framework will continually evolve through 2023 and 2024, we like to continue to remind all of our clients about the importance of implementing a version of this framework that aligns with their business goals.

In our first webinar, we focused on more protective and defensive cybersecurity technologies that are required by cyber insurance providers. In this webinar, we discussed the human element in cybersecurity. Our two key topics were: cybersecurity awareness in your workplace and incident response planning. We offered suggestions for cybersecurity training and ways incident response planning can mitigate your cybersecurity risk.

Cybersecurity Training

Joe Yetto discussed how to create, develop, and implement effective cybersecurity trainings. He covered the following topics:

  • Formal, multifaceted programming that’s easy to follow
  • The importance of mandatory, ongoing, and current training
  • How to praise good cybersecurity habits and coach bad ones

Joe also gave some helpful suggestions on where to start by developing policy samples and a clear Incident Response Plan.

Incident Response Planning

Next, Richard Pressler discussed the importance of an Incident Response Plan and the key steps that should be included in a successful one. The steps include:

  • Step 1 – Preparation: Disaster Recovery planning and testing
  • Step 2 – Detection and Analysis: Defining what an incident means for your business, as well as the severity levels of various attacks
  • Step 3 – Containment, Eradication, Recovery: Determining who will be notified and how, as well as how your cyber insurance will be notified
  • Step 4 – Post-Incident Activity: Review what lessons were learned and how to better prepare for future threats

Panelist Discussion

To close out our webinar series, the panelists held a roundtable discussion on the following themes: key ways to implement cybersecurity awareness training and more details of an effective Incident Response Plan. All of the panelists reminded viewers of the importance of the human element in a strong, multi-layered security strategy — especially considering 85% of data breaches involve human error.
